Outstanding Senior in the Lab

May 8, 2021

RA Audrey Eady is a 2021 President's Award Recipient for the Outstanding Senior Award, an honor to recognize graduates who greatly contributed to the University and demonstrated leadership abilities. Audrey was nominated by Dr. Cardom from the Middle Earth program. She is pictured here with Dr. Altarriba, her faculty guest at the ceremony.

Dr. Altarriba collaborates to tackle COVID-19 health disparities

March 25, 2021

Dr. Altarriba and Mary C. Avery join an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the fields of Communication and Public Administration & Policy to weigh effective COVID-19 messaging to those with Limited English Proficiency. This grant-funded project seeks to investigate and ultimately provide guidance on more effective health communication measures for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. Part of the SUNY Prepare Innovation and Internship Program.

Dr. Altarriba is a keynote speaker at the ALR2020 symposium

Sharing her breadth of work on the bilingual experience and cognition, Dr. Jeanette Altarriba was an invited speaker at the 1st International Symposium on Applied Linguistics Research hosted in Saudi Arabia and held virtually.

Senior research assistant Emily Copertino received a Situation Prize for Research for her self-initiated project, "Remembering Strangers: A Look into the Production Effect and Face-Name Associations." Congratulations, Emily!

The Lab takes on Montreal!

Jeanette Altarriba presented a virtual talk entitled "The Influence of Emotion on Memory and Language Processing" to an engaged audience attending a conference at Prince Sultan University in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Halszka Bak is here for a visit

Fall 2019

Dr. Bak has returned to the Lab for a third time to continue collecting data for projects that address cross cultural emotion processing. She is currently working on creating an emotional database using Polish language research collected from the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland, as well as English language data collected within the Cognition and Language Lab.

Three RAs present independent projects

May 3, 2019

The Lab was well represented by our motivated undergraduate research assistants at UAlbany's 16th Annual Undergraduate Conference, hosted by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (CURCE). Matt Pascazi presented a poster entitled "The Effects of Emotional Scenarios on Memory." Destiny Valentine presented a poster based on her honor's thesis entitled "Emotion Processing." Anne Jordan presented an oral presentation entitled "Do You Control Your Emotions or Do Your Emotions Control You: Perceived Emotional Control Over Negative and Positive Emotion Words." A GREAT job by all three Great Danes!

RA Destiny Valentine wins a research award

April 9, 2019

After completing her honor's thesis entitled "Emotion Processing" with the Lab, Destiny Valentine successfully submitted her project for the Situation Prize for Research. Pictured is Destiny receiving her award from donor Damian Bazadona. Congratulations, Destiny, on this accomplishment!
